Melco Introduces the E100A – the ultimate digital music USB storage solution
Offering 8TB of storage, the E100A offers all digital music users Melco’s legendary sound quality, whatever their chosen platform.
2nd October 2024 – Melco Audio, the Japanese digital music experts, has announced the second generation of its highly acclaimed USB storage solution – E100A. Featuring an 8TB HDD, the E100A is designed from the ground up specifically for audiophiles to store and access their treasured digital music collections at the highest possible quality level. Given the company’s vast experience developing digital music storage solutions, the E100A is designed for use across a wide-range of audio-related systems, adding USB digital music to platforms such as Aurender, Auralic, Lumin, and, of course, the staple diet of computer digital music on a PC or MAC using JRiver or similar PC based players.
Appreciating that not everyone will be using a Melco server, the E100A has been designed as a high-performance audio playback drive capable of the most extreme audio data rates, including multi-channel 32bit DXD 384kHz. Understanding that some digital audio platforms have only a single multipurpose USB socket, the E100A has a USB hub facility, enabling it to be daisy chained into a system thanks to the inclusion of a USB ‘A’ socket on the rear to replicate the socket on the host that has been used for the E100A.
Recognised by all PC, MAC, and audio workstations as a USB connected storage device, the E100A can be used as a repository for rips, downloads, or music production for access on all connected devices. By enhancing the HDD mounting, the HDD drive power supplies and the digital interface, the new Melco E100A offers a considerable sound quality improvement compared to PC based audio systems.
The addition of an all-new motherboard material, which was carefully selected during listening tests, combined with a high-grade NDK clock, the E100A utilises other key components that until now have been the reserve of Melco’s music library. These include the proprietary HS-S2 High Stability Storage System, which holds the specially-selected-for-audio HDD drive securely, whilst adding the required amount of damping for perfect performance.
Connectivity is via the rear panel USB 3.0 type B port for the host device such as PC, MAC, streamer or MELCO Music Library on the rear panel. There is also an additional USB 3.0 type A port on the E100A to daisy chain the USB socket of the host, which in the case of slim laptops often has only limited connectivity. This allows connection of more USB devices - so a USB-DAC can now connect to the E100A and benefit from the high performance clock. The 2mm thick chassis is made from high-quality steel, which is further dampened by the absorptive material in the specially designed feet.
