November 2020, Vicenza, Italy: Iconic Italian loudspeaker manufacturer, Sonus
faber, has launched the Maxima Amator, a new two-way design that echoes many of
the classic Sonus faber two-ways of the past, yet introduces contemporary
speaker technology.
The
luxurious Maxima Amator floor-stander benefits from a beautiful solid walnut
cabinet which has been painstakingly designed using modern woodworking methods,
to exploit the performance benefits of a solid-wood chassis. The rich walnut is
enhanced further by a real leather wrap on both the front baffle and rear
panel.
Entirely made in Italy, Sonus faber’s engineers have gone to great
lengths to accurately define the Maxima Amator’s internal
cabinet volume, which has been divided into three separate chambers to increase
rigidity, minimise resonance and shield the crossover, which is further
protected by a dedicated chamber, visible from the back of the cabinet.
The new Maxima
Amator is the latest addition to the Heritage
collection, which contains the Minima Amator II and Electa Amator II
stand-mounts. The speaker uses the same drivers as the Electa Amator II: a 28
mm D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter with Neodymium magnetic motor system and a
solid spruce wood acoustic labyrinth rear chamber, plus a 180 mm mid-range unit
with an air-dried membrane made of cellulose pulp and natural fibers, mounted
on a Sonus faber original design die-cast aluminum basket.
Sonus faber has developed a new
crossover technology especially for the Maxima Amator. The IFF Crossover (Interactive Fusion Filtering) design foregoes a
conventional first order design, with non-academic transfer functions based on
the company’s accelerated progressive slopes.

CABINET |
High rigidity diffused resonance spectrum system obtained by means of
solid Walnut slabs (thickness 25 mm each). Baffle and back panel covered in
leather. The cabinet consists of three different chambers, the first is the
acoustic volume, optimized using software node simulators, the second is a
volume filled with inert material that will give stability to the cabinet and
will help reduce any small spurious resonances of the solid wood structure. .
The third is the one that contains the crossover network isolating it from
the acoustic chamber. |
